Dubrovnik and its fortified Old Town is among the most visited and photographed destinations in all Europe. In the middle ages, it was known as the Republica Ragusa, a powerful maritime state and a big rival of Venice on the Adriatic coast. Since 1979, Dubrovnik is UNESCO World Heritage. Famous for its wonderful Renaissance and Baroque architecture, red brick roofs and its two kilometers long walls, that successfully resisted the attacks of different enemies through centuries, Dubrovnik is a must-see destination in Croatia. Explore the Old Town’s central street Stradun; the Franciscan Monastery (with one of the oldest pharmacies in the world), the renaissance Rector’s Palace, the town walls, the Lovrjenac Fortress and many pictoresque squares and churches of this amazing town.

Dubrovnik is mainly a cultural destination, which asides from monuments of interest, offers a series of cultural events and festivals. Dubrovnik is a destination where you can enjoy a rest, and has extremely good air connections with all the larger European centres. Dubrovnik is a city that charms, a city that you fall in love with and always return to like new, to discover more unique experiences.

A town of monuments or museums under UNESCO patronage. Starting from the 1940 m long walls with bulwarks, the Stradun, Orlando’s pillar, the gothic renaissance palace of Sponza and the celebrated Rector’s Palace as well as the famous church and monastery, Dubrovnik has, without a doubt, a special place in Croatia’s cultural heritage. Once a part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, there is also the nearby Pelješac peninsula with the 5.5 km long walls of the stone town of Ston. Growing up on the remains of a Greek colony, the island of Korčula with streets that have a fish bone pattern is a true urban gem and asides from the traditional knight’s game called “Moreška”, is most famous today for being the birth place of Marko Polo. In the furthest south, there is the island of Mljet with a Benedictine monastery built in the 12th century that was constructed on an island in the middle of the great lake.

Try the Ston oysters and mussels here, which are considered to be some of the tastiest and finest shell fish in the Adriatic. Asides from lamb and veal cooked in embers under an iron bell, this region’s gastronomic chapter consists of eel and frog stew from the Neretva valley. Maybe more than anywhere else on the coast, the Dubrovnik region offers special sweet pastries where the most famous are Rožata and Kotonjata as well as the Mantalata and Arancina cakes. All this should be accompanied with top quality wines such as Dingač and Postup from Pelješac, Pošip and Grk from Korčula, as well as Dubrovnik’s malvasia from Konavle.
